Donald Trump’s reaction to last night’s White House Correspondents Dinner shows the much-indicted ex-POTUS still sucks at being the butt of a joke.
Hours after President Joe Biden and Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost unleashed an arsenal of zingers against Trump from the head table of the 2024 WHCD, the presumptive GOP nominee took to his Truth Social to hit back.
Sure, Trump bucked the consensus and declared the Weekend Update co-host “bombed” and the current occupant of the Oval Office “was an absolute disaster.” But Trump’s 1:05 a.m. ET posting was much more succinct than usual and a whole lamer than past rebuttals, and received a sad number of likes – as you can see below:
Of course, it should be pointed out that Trump never once braved the WHCD during his rocky reign. It should also be pointed out that many have speculated over the years that the mockery the President Barack Obama thundered down on Trump at the 2011 WHCD, as the Celebrity Apprentice host was sitting a few feet away, prompted his successful and grievance fueled race for the White House in 2016.
Or as 81-year-old Biden put it last night in the Washington Hilton ballroom of the 77-year old Trump: “I’m a grown man running against a 6-year-old.”
In the third and potentially last WHCD of his presidency, Biden took a number of well-timed swings at “Sleepy Don” in his short but zinger filled remarks, as did Jost.
“Let me see if I can summarize where this race stands at this moment,” the SNL cast member quipped after POTUS spoke in but one of many swipes at Trump in front of a power player and star-studded crowd eating the material up. “The Republican candidate for president owe s half a billion in fines for bank fraud and is currently spending his days farting himself awake during a porn star hush money trial and the race is tied?!”
Polling has had the 2024 Biden/Trump rematch fundamentally unchained for months, with the occasionally blip here and there for both candidates.
Back in court on April 29 for his NYC hush money trial, Trump is fighting off almost 90 felony charges and cases over the mishandling of classified documents, falsifying business documents, and attempting to overburn both the federal 2020 election efforts.
While Donald Trump wasn’t at the WHCD last night, daughter-in-law and recently appointed RNC co-chair Lara Trump was – a fact Jost did not overlook.
“There are so many incredible individuals here, Lara Trump is here tonight,” the comedian said well into his routine. “She recently released a cover of the song ‘I Won’t Back Down.’ Upon hearing it, Tom Petty died again.”
“I can’t believe I’m saying this to a member of the Trump family, but maybe stick to politics?”
